    Have you ever felt curious about the Sanskrit words you hear in your yoga class? Or felt intimidated by the chanting teachers offer before or at the end of class? Come uncover the first layer of ‘mystery’ behind this ancient technology. This 90-minute class will introduce you to the sounds of Sanskrit in an approachable way. Learn how making these sounds relates directly to your yoga or ayurveda practice. No experience necessary.

    Shelley Christopherson has been practicing yoga and meditation since 2001. She studied Comparative Religions at San Diego State University, and the University of Colorado at Denver 1998-2005, where she fell in love with Eastern religion, spirituality and philosophy. She received her RYT200 from Ashtanga and Iyengar-based school, Axis Yoga, in Denver in 2005. The past 10 years have to been devoted to Sanskrit studies with Dr. Katy Komenda. This practice has deepened her awareness of the subtle body, bridged an endless awakening to the ancient texts, and inspired a deep love for the language of the yoga tradition. She has taught all over the state of Alaska, and is currently residing in Anchorage with her family.

  • Mantra Meditation with Shelley
    A 3-week exploration of Sanskrit, chanting and mantra meditation

    Come learn how chanting the pure sounds of Sanskrit are a tool to help you slide into meditation easier. In this 3-part series, you will be introduced to simple one-line mantras and will explore their meaning & use. We will also practice a japa mantra meditation technique; a great way to begin a meditation practice or enliven the one you already have! This class is for all levels, no experience necessary.
